Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, has disclosed that the government is ready to evacuate Ghanaians who are stranded in China due to the widespread of the Novel Coronavirus. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has advised that the government should hold on until the epidemic is contained across the world. Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, he explained that the government has taken enough steps to ensure the safety of Ghanaians especially students in the Wuhan province. He assured that government has not abandoned Ghanaians stranded in China but the necessary steps have been taken to ensure their safety. He said Psychological Consultants have also been employed by the government to speak to these Ghanaians especially the students who have been quarantined in China. He added that Ghanaians should note that evacuation is not as simple as they think. He, however, appealed to the Minority to desist from doing politics with the novel Coronavirus because the government has taken steps to ensure that everyone is safe. Ghanaian students who are currently stuck up in coronavirus stricken Wuhan province in China are appealing to the government to as a matter of urgency evacuate them before things get out of hand. According to them, most countries have and are evacuating their nationals from the province but there seems to be no help in sight for Ghanaian students who are locked up in their various rooms. Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, Secretary-General of the Union of Ghana Students, Mr. Bernard Bekoe Boamah, explained that the government should take steps to evacuate their fellow students from the coronavirus stricken province. “We have been receiving images and videos from there and the situation isn’t a nice one, it is very scary. “Though the government has sent us some money for upkeep and acquire some nose masks, it’s not enough to immune us from contracting the virus. “What we are asking the government to do is to make the necessary arrangement and evacuate the stranded Ghanaian students who are numbering a little over 300 back to Ghana before the situation gets out of hand,” he added.
